WeatherNet 3 for Mac

WeatherNet 3 for Mac responds to the expanding number of Mac users in the marine marketplace, the incessant need for weather and ocean data in that environment, and the demand for the affordable delivery of these data.

WeatherNet 3 fulfills your quest for weather and ocean data on the Mac like no service before it. For a decade, WeatherNet has warehoused the most robust collection of weather, ocean and fishing data on the planet. As it has since its first day, the patented WeatherNet data transfer engine continues to hold the preeminent position in the accelerated delivery of content across all satellite and wireless platforms. These twin pillars of content diversity and file transfer performance are now integrated together in unprecedented fashion with the launch of WeatherNet 3’s Portal mode and its imbedded intelligent Content Wizard. The Content Wizard personalizes WeatherNet’s vast content library to the specific weather, ocean and fishing interests of the individual user. It’s Portal mode then stages selections for the rapid and reliable global delivery of these products via satellite or cellular, wired or wireless connections.

WeatherNet has been issued Patent 022229-000100US by the U.S. Patent Office.

  • Compatible with Mac OSX 10.6 and newer

The soul of WeatherNet is its content library. With it, WeatherNet becomes the only resource with:

  • co-located GRIB weather and ocean data,
  • text information,
  • classic weather charts,
  • buoy,
  • radar,
  • satellite imagery,
  • tides,
  • ice data and much more

Fishing content includes multiple sources of:

  • sea temperature,
  • ocean color,
  • sea surface height,
  • mixed layer depth,
  • and ocean currents

Jennifer Clark, Chris Parker, BuoyWeather and FeMax add value-added content perspectives filled with unique insights. Data is constantly being refreshed and updated so the very latest analyses are provided each time you pull to you the data products you desire.

If its content library is WeatherNet’s soul, the new Content Wizard is its genius. You use the Wizard to tell WeatherNet the types of products in which you are interested. No need to get specific, just let us know whether you’d like GRIB or classic weather charts, text files or buoy products, fishing data or ice forecasts, satellite pictures or tide information…the list goes on. But instead of you having to hunt for these data, WeatherNet’s intelligent content algorithm merges your interests with your present or proposed location, anywhere in the world, and the work by OCENS professionals who have mapped each one of the thousands of products in our large library. The result is a personalized list of products that satisfy the specific insights you require for prevailing and predicted weather, ocean and fishing conditions. Your Wizard list is then presented to you on the Portal mode screen for fine-tuning where it appears with a regional map monitoring your Home Location.

Having identified your preferred WeatherNet product set, the Portal mode transitions to our powerful File Transfer engine. The patented File Transfer engine works with the WeatherNet Satellite Dialer to dial, download, and deposit requested data on your device before automatically disconnecting to protect you against unwanted airtime expenses. Its satellite intelligence is unprecedented. Be it handheld phones, docking stations, or fixed broadband installations, WeatherNet works through each of them to keep your sessions short, transfer sizes small, and airtime costs low. The customized compression of each WeatherNet product by our servers before it travels over your airtime further distinguishes your savings with WeatherNet from any other source. In fact, these savings are so substantial that it costs you more in minutes or megabytes to download ‘free’ products from the Internet than to obtain them by harnessing the power of WeatherNet.

Once products are delivered to your desktop, WeatherNet auto-launches OCENS GRIB Explorer or other viewing software you choose to use. Acquired products are cataloged by date and name for easy retrieval and analysis later that day or night. Just double-click on the file in your WeatherNet screen to re-launch and review.

As you view acquired information, WeatherNet continues to track your location on a global map auto-zoomed to the region in which you are operating. With time, your changing location may be distant from the spot you first used to source your prevailing set of weather, ocean and fishing products. If so, WeatherNet notifies you with its on-map display of your Home Location and its surrounding content box. A quick click of the Portal mode’s Refresh List button delivers an updated list of products incorporating your memorized content preferences but now pertinent to your latest location.

For our many legacy customers OCENS has retained the classical Library and Basic modes with which you are familiar. The interfaces are revitalized with new icons and a fresh, updated look. Use Library and Basic mode if you desire, as you desire. But don’t neglect the capacity of the Content Wizard to explore WeatherNet in new ways to mine from it the very richest array of weather, ocean and fishing products.

Bundled with WeatherNet 3 is a comprehensive Help file that not only addresses the how-to of the new version but also goes into discussions of the data available to you in the WeatherNet warehouse. An introductory video is also bundled with the WeatherNet installer.  The video walks you through your first use of the Content Wizard, Portal mode and File Transfer process. It’s a convenient overview that quickly transitions you into the full utility, which is WeatherNet 3.

“Just a quick kudo to you all. With several boats passaging to Haiti with critical items, your products are helping keep them safe. It’s not an easy voyage thru the Windward Passage this time of year. Just wanted to tell you your services can be lifesavers.  Thank you. Its more than just data you provide.”

One thing that’s never changed is the commitment of OCENS staff of professionals to supporting you, on land or sea. Whether it be activation, device configuration, peripheral integration or content suggestions, OCENS staff will patiently and professionally work to satisfy you. It’s who we are.

WeatherNet's fee structure is also revolutionary. Users simply activate their account and then pay for the weather they download. Each weather product is priced independently; data costs and estimated air time are computed prior to the download. The amazing thing is that WeatherNet is so efficient that you will pay less using this for pay service than you would downloading this data for free over the internet using conventional methods!

Weather Viewers

As important as access and downloading of this data is - being able to view it and having tools on hand to help you interpet it is just as important.

  • GRIB Explorer for Mac is our answer to viewing and working with GRIB weather and ocean data on your Mac. This is arguably the most powerful, yet easy to use GRIB viewer on the market. You can find more information on this product by clicking here.

While most customers find that a dedicated weather viewer is much more practical than layering weather data in your navigation software, the files that you are downloading with WeatherNet are standard GRIB, image, and text files. That means you can import them into your existing software applications such as your current GRIB viewer or navigation software.

WeatherNet is compatible with most navigation software systems that use or display standard GRIB files. Many even have WeatherNet built in as the download engine.
